At the heart of Canada's largest urban region is the Don River. Once a year, Toronto and Region Conservation (TRCA) provides a unique opportunity for people to paddle the Don River from Ernest Thompson Seton Park to the mouth at the Keating Channel.
Manulife Paddle the Don is all about having fun, enjoying nature, and celebrating the Don River watershed. The trip also provides a time for reflection on all the benefits we derive from the natural environment - air, water, resources, recreation, and spiritual renewal - that are integral to the function of the city and the surrounding region.
The paddle is open to individual participants and corporate teams.
Paddle the Don remains a free event; however donations to regenerate the Don are encouraged. Since the pledge program began in 2002, paddlers have raised almost $400,000! These funds are currently being held by The Living City Foundation and will be combined with this year's donations to help fund regeneration projects in the Don watershed, as identified in the 2009 Don River Watershed Plan - Beyond Forty Steps as well as other initiatives that are of environmental benefit to the watershed and the people who live, work and visit the Don.
This exciting event is organized by TRCA, The Living City Foundation, the Wilderness Canoe Association and the Don Watershed Regeneration Council, along with the support of many dedicated volunteers, generous sponsors and watershed supporters.
Come celebrate the day and a successful paddle down the Don at the Manulife Take-out Party. A barbeque will be held and food and refreshments will be available for a nominal cost.
Black Creek beer will be available for purchase by those who are 19 years of age or older (valid photo ID required).
